• Want to get Recognised for your Prior Learning?

Facilitator led training and online training offered by SAI Global are great pathways to learn and apply new skills. If the training is linked to a nationally recognised qualification the attainment of those skills can be formally assessed and units of competency and qualifications can be issued.

Sometimes though, individuals already have those skills and they are applying those skills on the job. This means that training may not be the best pathway available to the individual to achieve a qualification.

Two other pathways are available to obtaining a qualification and they are Credit Transfer and Recognised Prior Learning (RPL).

    Recognised Prior Learning (RPL):

    • RPL aims to provide individuals who believe they are already competent with a flexible way to have their skills and knowledge assessed against the nationally recognised competencies in Training Packages and accredited courses.
    • RPL is the recognition of skills and knowledge acquired through informal learning, such as work or life experience. RPL is granted where the candidate is able to provide sufficient evidence of their competence in a unit as determined by the appointed RPL assessor. This can include past training or work experience.

    Credit Transfer

If you have completed past studies in areas related to the qualification you plan to enrol in, you may be eligible for credit transfer.

Credit transfer is a process that provides students with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification. It is based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications.

Credit Transfer relates to the recognition of equivalent units issued by RTOs other than SAI Global or the recognition of superseded units issued by other RTO's or SAI Global.

So what type of information is required?

    Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)

It is important to have an understanding of the units of competency you need to obtain to achieve a qualification. This will help you identify the skills and knowledge required to be deemed competent. RPL checklists provide you with that understanding and are available for all qualifications issued by SAI Global. The checklists give you with a brief overview of relevant units of competency for your course or qualification and help you determine if RPL is the right pathway for you.

    RPL checklists for your qualification:

BSB 51615 Diploma of Quality Auditing
BSB51915 Diploma of Leadership and Management
BSB51315 Diploma of Work Health and Safety
BSB60615 Advanced Diploma of Work Health and Safety
10140NAT Diploma of Food Safety Quality Assurance Management

    Credit Transfer

You will need to provide documentation of your past study so an assessor can make a decision about whether a credit transfer can be granted.  This includes JP certified copies of your transcripts.

    • Complete the Credit RPL enquiry form and return this to SAI Global
(Fax: 1300 727 888 or scan and email to rpl@saiglobal.com)
    • Attach your CV/resume and copies of any relevant existing qualifications
    • An SAI Global assessor will contact you within 48 hours to discuss your enquiry and will issued with an  Application Form if you wish to proceed.
    • Credit transfer applicants will have their applications finalised at this stage
    • RPL applicants will be issued with an evidence map for each unit of competency on their application.  The evidence map will help you document your evidence for submission.

    How much does RPL cost?

By forwarding in your application form, you are agreeing to our Terms and Conditions; this includes an administration/assessor fee of $350 per AQF unit of competency.

The price quoted above covers the following process:

    • 1st submission of RPL application + portfolio of evidence
    • 1st evaluation of your portfolio by a qualified Assessor
    • Personal or telephone interview to clarify evidence and confirm underpinning knowledge
    • If your portfolio does not contain sufficient evidence of your competency, the assessor will provide detailed feedback and you will be given the opportunity to re-submit your portfolio
    • 2nd evaluation of your portfolio (if required)

    * A special rate of $75 per unit applies to RPL of the entry units for the Diploma and Advanced Diploma of WHS

How much does Credit Transfer it cost?

We have three different fee structures:

    • Units that are exactly the same as those currently within SAI Global's scope: $50 flat rate
    • Units that are similar, but were issued under a previous version, or, may differ in minor way from the current unit (eg a letter A at the end instead of a B): $50 per unit.
    • Units from a different training package which may be used as electives towards the qualification: $150 per unit

NB: Should you be unsuccessful in your application, please be advised that the application fee is not refundable; however, you are entitled to re-submit your application a second time for no further charge.

    How long does it take?

Once your enrolment form is received at SAI Global, you will be notified of your enrolment and sent an invoice. Your application will then be actioned by an assessor. Please allow between 4-6 weeks to receive confirmation of your outcome.
