Duck Assurance Scheme

The British Poultry Council has developed a Duck Assurance Scheme (DAS) for producers looking to show their products’ provenance and standards to consumers.  The Duck Assurance Scheme complements other poultry meat sectors (Assured Chicken Production and Quality British Turkey) that guarantee high standards of food safety, animal welfare and environmental protection.

The scheme has been developed for Duck producers who are keen to demonstrate their professionalism and high standards of production. SAI Global are the designated inspection body for the scheme.

Scope of the Scheme
The scheme covers all areas of duck production:

  • Breeding
  • Hatching
  • Rearing
  • Catching
  • Transport
  • Slaughter
  • Free Range
  • Table Eggs

Who does the inspections?
SAI Global has an 80 strong team of inspectors, many of whom are already familiar with auditing standards which focus on animal health and welfare. The inspectors have the relevant proven background knowledge and experience to undertake the inspections, as well as specific in-depth training with regards to the DAS.

Audit frequency
Members of the DAS are audited annually by SAI Global.

Who does the certification?
SAI Global certifies all DAS audits. This means upon receipt of an inspection report they are responsible for deciding whether a producer has achieved the relevant standard and issue the certificate.
SAI Global employs fully trained and qualified certification managers to ensure certification accuracy.
