Automotive Management System

The Automotive industry OEM's have recognised the growing need for an independent Quality System Registration Scheme and the accompanying efficiencies and value that could be realized in the supply chain by standardising system requirements. As such, the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), a group of OEM's and automotive trade associations whose common goal is to improve the quality of products to automotive customers worldwide, has been formed to lead the development effort.

The IATF has developed a common registration scheme for supplier 3rd party registration to the ISO/TS 16949 standard. The registration scheme includes third party auditor qualifications and common rules for consistent global registration.

What is ISO/TS 16949?

ISO/TS 16949:2002 specifies the quality system requirements for the design and development, production, installation and servicing of automotive related products. There are also customer specific requirements that are required by individual subscribing vehicle manufacturers.

In conjunction with ISO 9001:2000, ISO/TS 16949:2002 is an ISO Technical Specification, which aligns existing American, German (VDA6.1), French (EAQF) and Italian (AVSQ) automotive quality systems standards within the global automotive industry, with the aim of eliminating the need for multiple certifications to satisfy multiple customer requirements.

The International Automotive Task Force (IATF) has announced that ISO/TS 16949:2009 will be issued during the first quarter 2009, following the ballot of ISO TC176, and reflects the changes in ISO 9001:2008.

Other standards available for the Automotive industry:
ISO 14001 is an environmental management system that assists companies in planning, monitoring and continually improving their competitive position and environmental performance. Elective ISO 14001 registration can empower companies to achieve and systematically control higher levels of environmental performance.

OHSAS 18001 is an international occupational health and safety management system. This standard enables companies to control health and safety risks, while at the same time promoting employee well-being and a safe work environment.

Supplier Compliance Management (SCM): SAI Global has vast experience in the development and delivery of technical management and inspection services. The technical resources available to SAI Global are world class and it has a proven track record of SCM and Supply Chain Assurance through many years experience of working with Global Brands.
