The purpose of the GMA-SAFE audit is to provide a narrative assessment report that would allow the customer to take a ‘virtual tour’ of a supplier facility. GMA-SAFE has been performing this service since 2001 both in North America and globally and has performed close to 6,000 audits since its inception. The program offers seven different assessments: Food Protection, Food Protection- Express, Aseptic, Dairy, Spice, Packaging, and Warehouse/Distribution
. GMA-SAFE has been utilized around the world to provide information to large multi-national customers about their supplier base.
In June of 2008, the GMA-SAFE program was acquired by SAI Global (known as QMI-SAI Global in North America). We have strived to maintain its original vision of being the information source to the food industry by providing a high level of service to our customers requesting GMA-SAFE assessments.
We have identified some changes which have been completed or may be in process of completion to improve the GMA-SAFE process and reporting.
Scheduling of Audits
We have changed from an on-line bidding system to a personalized scheduling system. This system will help us align your facility with auditors that have adequate background experience, competencies and education. This should also help us meet audit date requests from the customer more often as well as minimize auditor costs as much as possible.
For scheduling an audit, please call Linda Dienes @ 216-654-0856 for assistance.
Overall Pricing System
We have moved to an overall pricing system that has eliminated the bid process delays and variation in rates. This overall pricing system is based on the average costs of the GMA-SAFE assessment audit.
We have been harmonizing the GMA-SAFE checklist and reporting to provide better alignment with the GFSI standards and requirements resulting in a more thorough assessment of a supplier’s facility. The updated GMA-SAFE report has been completed and is currently in use. To obtain a copy of the updated checklist, please email your request to email@example.com. If personal assistance is required, contact Kris Middleton at 216-654-0892.
Responses to Judgments from Audit
With the report and website changes, the process for responding to judgments from the GMA-SAFE audit will be through the completion of a separate "Assessment Findings Response Form" that will be provided by your auditor. Please provide your responses to your auditor to ensure final report completion in a timely manner.
As of January 31, 2012, we have discontinued the GMA-SAFE website and transitioned to our new web portal (QMI Direct). This web portal contains the reports, judgment responses, and certificates. Obtaining copies of an individual assessment report varies at this point-in-time.
- If you are a customer attempting to access a report for an audit that occurred prior to September 1, 2011, the report can be provided by emailing your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. If personal assistance is required, contact Kris Middleton at 216-654-0892.
- If you are a customer attempting to access a report for an audit that occurred after September 1, 2011, please email your request to Linda Dienes (email@example.com).
- If you are a third party user of GMA-SAFE audits who has been provided an audit number/key by your supplier, please email your request for the report to firstname.lastname@example.org. The email will need to include the audit number/key code. If the month/date and location of the audit are also provided, it will expedite the retrieval process. A ‘pdf’ version of the report will be sent to the person making the request.
GMA-SAFE Assessment Improvements/Changes
Many of the changes that are being enacted will enable us to work within the GMA-SAFE program to invest in program improvements and to upgrade requirements to facilitate better alignment with GFSI standards and requirements. This will allow better integration with other audits as we move forward. As we implement improvements and changes, we appreciate your patience and continued participation.
In addition to GMA-SAFE assessments, we provide auditing to GFSI standards (BRC, SQF, IFS, FSSC 22000, Global Gap, Canada Gap, etc.) as well as other management systems (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, ISO 22000, etc.). In addition, we can offer a wide variety of training courses in various locations that provide information for understanding, implementing, and auditing to ensure compliance and maintenance of your systems. If interested in training options, please contact email@example.com or 800-374-3818.
With these changes and improvements, we will strive to maintain those services that you and your customers have become accustomed to. Any questions regarding the GMA-SAFE program please email your request to firstname.lastname@example.org. If personal assistance is required, contact Kris Middleton at 216-654-0892.
