Overview

 A key challenge faced by many organisations that actively focus on achieving business excellence, is the difficulty in prioritising identified improvement opportunities. These opportunities may have been identified through a formal assessment, regulatory changes, staff suggestions, customer feedback or another established mechanism to identify opportunities within your organisation.Typically, available time and resources prevent organisations from addressing all opportunities at any once. For this reason, it is necessary that they are able to effectively prioritise these, giving preference to those opportunities which will deliver the greatest improvement, given the available resources. An organisation may also look at a tiered approach to addressing these opportunities.

Prioritisation

SAI Global develops its approach to prioritisation using two considerations for each improvement opportunity:

 

  • Strategic Impact - the potential of the improvement opportunity to influence the performance of the organisation with respect to long term goals
  • Urgency - how quickly action is required on the improvement opportunity to address the current improvement needs of the organisation

A prioritisation workshop is typically conducted after a formal assessment where opportunities have been identified and collated. The workshop guides your leadership team towards a clear decision and action plan and to:

  • Facilitate the organisation’s understanding of all the opportunities for improvement;
  • Prioritise the opportunities to systematically determine resource allocation;
  • Facilitate action planning against specific findings; and
  • Determine how best to drive improvement within the organisation given its current capability and resources.

Facilitating Continuous Improvement

SAI Global works with your organisation to develop a tailored approach to managing opportunities within your organisation. As each organisation has highly varying needs and capabilities, the Continuous Improvement System tailored to your organisation, with consideration to the following key elements required for an effective continuous improvement system:

  • Efficiently collect and centralise identified opportunities;
  • Effectively assess, prioritise and allocate resources to develop an approach to address the appropriate opportunities;
