Beef Labelling Scheme

SAI Global/EFSIS provide an effective verification and certification service for beef products, to ensure labelling claims made for beef throughout the food chain are accurate and authentic.
 
What does the standard cover
Abattoirs, Cutting Plants, Wholesalers, Distribution depots, Multiple and Independent Retailers.
 
Benefits of the scheme
The Beef Labelling System is a European Community (EC) wide system, which is intended to provide buyers with clear, reliable information about beef (including veal), on sale. Compulsory rules now apply for the labelling of fresh and frozen beef (and these meats when minced). All beef offered for sale in the EU must be labelled with certain compulsory information. Inspections are also undertaken where a supplier is making a voluntary claim e.g. Farm assured.
 
Who accepts and recognises the standard/scheme?
Certificate of approval required by applicant making claims. Supplier and retailer who wishes to promote claim on supplier or retail label.
 
The inspectors
All the SAI Global inspectors are suitably trained/qualified to undertake inspections and have a minimum 5 years experience within this sector.
 
Who does the certification?
SAI Global undertakes the Certification element. All the Certification officers are suitably trained and are required to adhere to the procedures for Certification which are assessed by UKAS.
