Introduction

The approval of household electrical appliances is generally mandatory for Australia and New Zealand. This means for product to be sold, it must have an approval. Approval marking of product is defined in respective state and territory legislation and/or regulations and includes the certification markings. SAI Global is an approved certification body so electrical products marked with the 5-Ticks StandardsMark or a Type Examination Certificate number issued by SAI Global can be placed for sale. Certification by SAI Global will also qualify product to be marked with the voluntary Regulatory Compliance Mark (RCM mark).

Product Certification Schemes

SAI Global Assurance Services manages schemes that are used to certify manufacturers of electrical equipment to Australian and international IEC standards. Information on these schemes is included below.

• Audit of the manufacturing site for initial and ongoing compliance.

For international trade and export markets the IECEE CB Scheme Certification service can facilitate meeting the compliance requirements of the various markets.

The CB Scheme is a Scheme for mutual recognition of testing (not certification) between participating countries. It is a vehicle to facilitate national approval or certification. SAI Global  is the accredited National Certification Body (NCB) for Australia and New Zealand.

SAI Global also issues internationally recognised CB Certificates that exporters can use to gain local electrical approval in overseas countries.
