Automotive Management

The Automotive industry OEM's have recognized the growing need for an independent Quality System Registration Scheme and the accompanying efficiencies and value that could be realized in the supply chain by standardising system requirements. As such, the International Automotive Task Force (IATF), a group of OEM's and automotive trade associations whose common goal is to improve the quality of products to automotive customers worldwide, has been formed to lead the development effort.

The IATF has developed a common registration scheme for supplier 3rd party registration to the ISO/TS 16949 standard. The registration scheme includes third party auditor qualifications and common rules for consistent global registration.

What is ISO/TS 16949?

ISO/TS 16949:2002 specifies the quality system requirements for the design and development, production, installation and servicing of automotive related products. There are also customer specific requirements that are required by individual subscribing vehicle manufacturers.

In conjunction with ISO 9001:2000, ISO/TS 16949:2002 is an ISO Technical Specification, which aligns existing American, German (VDA6.1), French (EAQF) and Italian (AVSQ) automotive quality systems standards within the global automotive industry, with the aim of eliminating the need for multiple certifications to satisfy multiple customer requirements.
