Course Outline
Day one to two:
- Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety Auditing
- OHS Law and Regulatory Bodies
- Hazard Management in OHS
- Auditing the AS/NZS 4801 Specification
Day three to five:
- ISO 19011 Overview
- Managing an Audit Program
- Audit Activities
- Conducting On-Site Audit Activities
- Reporting on the Audit
Purpose
An OHS audit monitors, measures and evaluates an organisation's OHS management system and its OHS performance. This intensive five-day course provides the knowledge, competencies and skills required by QSA International for auditing an OHS management system.
Combining hands on case studies with supporting theory on due diligence and relevant legislation, this course comprehensively covers the audit process and examines current OHS specifications and guidelines from an audit perspective.
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful Completion of this course participants should be able to:
- Understand OHS laws, principles, codes of practices, and standards;
- Identify OHS hazards that are reasonably expected to occur for that business type or industry;
- Assess the risk of identified hazards in the context of the organisation’s OHS management system;
- Assess the effectiveness of methodologies to control OHS hazards;
- Assess the OHS roles and responsibilities within the context of the organisational environment;
- Determine the adequacy and effectiveness of an OHS management system;
- Demonstrate the processes involved with managing audit programs, initiating an audit, preparing for an audit, conducting on-site audit activities, reporting on audit findings and conducting post-audit activities;
- Outline the personal and interpersonal skills required to conduct a management systems audit; and
- Demonstrate the appropriate oral, written and non-verbal communication techniques that are desirable for lead management systems auditors.

Participants will also be issued with a certificate of attainment for the internationally recognised RABQSA competency units:

- RABQSA - AU: Management systems auditing,
- RABQSA - TL: Leading management system audit teams and
- RABQSA - OH: OHS management systems.
Participants who successfully complete all five days training and all post-course assessment activities will be awarded with the following competency units:

This course is certified under the RABQSA International Training Provider Examination Certification Scheme for OHS management system auditors and will enable successful participants to apply to RABQSA International for certification as a provisional auditor.

Prerequisites
