Benefits of applying ISO 9001

We asked some of our auditors about the benefits of an ISO 9001 Quality Management System for organisations and the benefits of using SAI Global as a certification partner.

The "Five Ticks" StandardsMark™ is an instant sign of excellence and reliability that immediately displays your commitment to quality to your customers, suppliers and employees.

ISO 9001 certification may be a pre-requisite for contracts and tenders - make sure you don't miss out on opportunities because you don't comply.

Experienced auditors that add-value to your business

Protection of intellectual property by documenting processes and locking in system changes formally, you ensure that the business can continue to operate effectively, even if staff leave or are absent for long periods of time.

Staff can follow the systems and procedures in place without having to ask "how do I do this?" all the time -  This means you have more time to deal with more critical business issues.

As staff competence, training and development is a key aspect of ISO 9001, having an implemented system ensures that staff are actually competent and qualified. This can be particularly important in areas such as nursing, healthcare (where formal qualifications and training is often a mandatory customer requirement) and engineering areas.

Through improvement systems, locking in best practice and using this as a benchmark to further improve is a key aspect.

Through documenting issues and potential issues, the review of this information to identify key trends and eliminate problems is also a key benefit. Not until you start capturing such matters can you clearly see how big (or small) a problem is. This means you can take actions appropriately and with some background data rather than guessing.

Ensuring minimum standards and requirements, particularly contractual obligations, are complied with. It's quite embarrassing to find that you have promised a customer something that you either can't deliver on or ends up costing way more than you had budgetted for.

Elimination of re-work. Auditors often see the same mistakes being made when systems aren't fully or properly implemented. Re-work is very expensive and most businesses have no idea how much of it they actually do.

Water Corporation puts the environment first

The Water Corporation has been recognised for its commitment to the environment by being granted certification through SAI Global to the International Standard, ISO 14001, for Environmental Management Systems.

Around two million people throughout Western Australia benefit from the essential services that the Water Corporation provides, including sewerage, drinking water and drainage services. These services are susceptible to and can present unique environmental risks.

"This is a major initiative by the Water Corporation to ensure high environmental performance," said Sue Murphy, CEO of the Water Corporation. "It reflects the Corporation’s commitment to managing a sustainable environment across, what is arguably, one of the largest geographic areas in the world covered by a single Environmental Management System."
