Sydney, Australia, 1 May, 2011 - SAI Global Limited (ASX: SAI) has launched the current 2011 edition of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) + Standards online service. The BCA + Standards service is intended for building and construction industry practitioners seeking the most common methods of satisfying the BCA performance requirements.
The Building Code of Australia provides a nationally accepted and uniform set of technical requirements for all areas of building, from design to construction. Developed by the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) on behalf of the Commonwealth, State and Territory Governments, the BCA is referred to as the building regulation in all States and Territories.
The BCA is a performance-based publication that covers such topics as structure, fire resistance, health and amenity, building access and egress and building services and equipment.
Importantly, Housing Provisions are written in plain English and follow the typical staged flow of residential construction, from site preparation to completion. It also includes diagrams and commentary explaining the various clauses.
Standards are published documents setting out specifications and procedures designed to ensure products, services and systems are safe, reliable and consistently perform the way they were intended to. They establish a common language which defines quality and safety criteria.
Standards referenced in the BCA fall under the BCA's “deemed-to-satisfy” provisions and compliance with these Standards represents the most common method of satisfying the BCA performance requirements.
Together, the BCA + Referenced Standards online service provides practitioners with an integrated single access point to the BCA and all referenced Australian Standards®.
